I am looking at buying a log house. I have been told that it’s not a good idea since they are a lot of upkeep. I am a handy, but busy single mom. I’ve always wanted a log home though. Can you give me an idea of the maintenance I’m looking at above what I would do for any other house?

You should plan on budgeting at least $2000 per year for maintenance. You may not spend that much each year, but the time will come to strip the old finish off, and that can cost quite a bit ($10,000 to $20,000) depending on the size of the house. It will need constant inspections by you to watch for fading, leaking, caulk/chink failure and more.
