I have a honka log home. we have lived in it for 9 years so it was stained that long ago for second time by previous owner. it is getting quite dark. what do you recommend for process of cleaning and restraining. painter here said he would clean first with tsp. your thoughts?

Sounds like it has a plant oil (Linseed, Sunflower, etc.) based stain on it. I would recommend stripping it back to bare would and start over with a good latex stain made for log homes like LifeLine from Perma Chink. DO NOT power wash to strip. Recommend media blasting with glass or corn cob.
