I have a 15yr. old cabin. Three yrs. ago it was cracking and turning black. I sanded it down before re staining. Also put in crack seal and chinked it.
It didn’t work. is there anything you can do to cover it up, meaning something permanent besides siding or cemet planks, which are expensive, but need a permanent solution No more staining, it isn’t working, nor is the crack seal, I power washed it first also.
Power washing is not a good thing to do to your log home. It is probably why it is turning black. It drives the water deep into the wood fiber then it gets sealed in with the stain if not allowed to dry for 30 days or more. At that point it needs to be washed again lightly before staining and allowed to dry for a couple of days. If you want a low maintenance stain use a solid color stain like Sherwin Williams Woodscapes. Looks like paint, but has the characteristics of stain.
