I have been living a my log home for a little over a year. I have had a noise in one spot of the chinking for about the same amount of time. It’s a crunching or srcating noise and is pretty precistant. The exterminator thinks it is ants (but hasn’t seen any) and has treated for such. I thought the problem was taken care of, but as soon as it got warm out I started hearing it again. Is This ants? Is there anything I can do to get rid of what ever is in there?
It more than likely is Powder Post Beetle. I’m not sure what part of the country you are in. It could also be ”Old House Bores”. The best solution for this, unfortunatly, is to strip the finish off from the exterior and apply a borate solution and then stain again. Try calling your local university extension office and ask for their bug expert.
