We have bought log house that has been partially built 3 yrs ago but never stained. We are currently using water based stain on exterior. We still see damp spots on interior of house when it rains. We are afraid to stain the inside till we know what is causing damp appearance and feel of some of interior logs. Could water actually be penetrating through the logs where one log meets another? We have round on round logs. Thanks
I would wait for a while before staining the interior. It is very possible that water could be getting in thru the logs. You may want to caulk or chink the exterior complete. This will help stop the water infiltration. If the seams between the logs are 3/4” or less you should Energy Seal Caulk. If larger use Perma Chink.
