You will probably never get the smell out. Unfortunately removal is going to be your best option.

I would recommend hiring a structural engineer to look at it prior to purchase.

If it is caulk that you need I recommend Energy Seal. Rule of thumb is to use caulk on lines that are 3/4” or less. Anything wider you should use true chinking. I like Perma Chink. Call Dave at Timeless Wood Care Products at 800-564-2987 or timelesswoodcare.com to order.

It probably needs to be completely caulked on the exterior. Even thought they sell these homes as ”chink-less” over time they eventually all need to be caulked or chinked due to movement and shrinking of the logs. Call Mike at 866-670-3020 or email mike@logrepair.com for an estimate of cost.
