It will be okay if you keep it in good shape and keep up on the maintenance. I’m guessing this product is latex.
Should be okay. I would recommend experimenting in a small area first to make sure that it dries properly. Some hardware stains can remain sticky for a long time collecting dust.
I can’t say for sure how much you would need without seeing it. Depends on how dry it is. The label will tell you the coverage.
I would not recommend putting something different over it.

It would be better to use a solid stain. Paint on any wood, especially if it is exposed on one side to weather is not good.
