You should be able to take a piece of it to most any paint store to have it analyzed for paint or stain. If it is paint I would recommend having it removed. If you don’t, then it really wouldn’t matter what you use.

You should wash the walls as best as possible first with Log Wash (800-564-2987). I would recommend using Sherwin Williams Woodscapes Solid. Brush to apply.
If this is the route you’re going to take I would recommend sticking with the same product. If it has been ”many” years I think it probably needs to be stripped and start over.

First, do not fill the checks (cracks) in the logs unless they are allowing wind water or bugs to get inside. As for the oil versus latex…definitely latex…Perma Chink Life Line specifically.

A humidifier would help. As for a model all I can recommend is if you have forced air I would get a unit that mounts right on the plenum.

Best way would be to media blast it. Call Mike at 866-670-3020 for help. If you want to do it yourself I would recommend sanding.
