Itcauses the log to turn black from mold over time. I know you are seeing this if you have been useing it that long.
Try to scrape a piece off and take to your local Sherwin Williams dealer. They may be able to tell.
You could stain it with a solid color stain like Sherwin Williams Woodscapes.
The ”cracks” are called checks. They are very common. It can be made worse from building and applying heat to the home before they are completely dry. Corn cob blasting will do it.

You should call Ryan at 877-788-5647 for the log replacement. You should probably have the entire house corn cob blasted after and then stain.
