I would recommend getting it corn cob blasted before apply a different stain. I agree on the ”nasty” part!
Sand or corn blasting is OK for the exterior, but sanding for the interior only. The borate treatment should be applied to the exterior bare wood. It cannot have a finish on it to work. I recommend Perma Chink finishes.
Go with the Cedar. White Pine is more susceptible to rot. Also, if it is treated, I would be concerned about health issues living in a home with chemically treated wood.

Give it a good wash with Log Wash from Perma Chink. Let dry and apply one coat ofSikkens Log & Siding with your color.
You are going to have to sand them down and refinish.
Yes you need to wash the logs first with Log Wash from Perma Chink. You should stick with the same stain you have.
