You could try washing the logs with Log Wash from Perma Chink. If that does not do what you need they will probably have to be sanded.

You should never paint wood. Old School!
Leave the items off the wall or move them to new locations. Over time the UV in the light will blend these spots back in. This is very common with new wood.
Acommon pump up garden sprayer will work just fine.
You will have to sand the paint off. A side grinder with a 36 or 50 grit disc will cut it off fairly fast. Hang on to this bad boy! You can then go over it with an orbital sander to smooth it down.
The best way is to corncob blast or sand blast
You should use a good quality log home stain like Perma Chinks Life Line on both the interior and exterior. I would recommend using a latex chink instead of mortar on both the interior and exterior. Call Timeless Wood Care Products for help with this project at 800-564-2987.
The best thing would be to strip the finish and apply a borate treatment. You could also try having an exterminator come and spray to try and get the bugs from the surface wood that the birds are after.
