I’m about to build a sitck-built home & want to get some real log siding (not the milled stuff) from a local lumbar yard. It will be bolted on from the inside before the interior is finished. We plan to use permachink on the outside. We get a lot of sun (mid-southern Colorado).
My questions are:
Is it possibe to powerwash without damaging the permachink when the siding needs to be restained?
Also, is there any way to power spray on a stain with the permachink, or will I have to tape it off
First, you should never powerwash your logs. Corn cob blasting is a dry process and the best way to strip the finish. You can spray on the finish, but taping of the chink may not work well. My experience is the stain will run behind the tape and cause runs on the chink. It would be better to stay on top of the maintenance of the logs by hand brushing a freshen up coat whenever needed and cut in around the chink. The other option is to spray on top of the chink and live with it or paint the chink lines.
