We just purchsed a 200 year old hand hewn log home. How do I care for the logs. The logs are brown in some parts but grayish in others. Also wood peckers have put holes in the foam chinking. How do I repair them?

Real old log homes are a little harder to deal with. You can wash with log wash or you can corn cob blast, it’s hard to say without seeing it. We like to just put a gray stain on the really old ones to try and keep that gray wood look. As for the ”foam” chink, I’m not sure what that could be. If it is truly foam it needs to be covered with latex chink. Always use good quality stains and materials made for log homes like Perma Chink products. www.timelesswoodcare.com .
