My project is simple until now. I have a single 34” long oak log that has been planned flat on two sides. I sanded the sides smooth ready to coat. I countersunk 13 1 1/2” holes for candles. I left the piece in my bedroom finished w/prepping. I have now found hairline cracks running the length of the log down the middle from hole to hole, one end to the other. Why & what can I do to fix it & still look natural. Thanks

It was not completely dry when you started. Also taking into an extremely dry air will cause it to dry too fast and starting checking (cracking). You may have to start over with new log and allow to dry out side under cover for a long period. Maybe a year a more. The slower the drying the better.
