I just finished gutting out out a 1850’s log house. Do I take all the old wood pieces out before chinking? If so what should I put in its place so that it will be insulation in between the logs? Jim

You probably shouldn’t take them all out. Try to shave them back if you have to before applying the new chinking to keep the chink line flush. In any of the open areas you need to fill with a closed cell foam. Grip Strip is the best. You can get all of the productsthat you need from Timeless Wood Care Products at 800-564-2987.
