We purchased hand hewn timbers to remodel a basement to look like a cabin. We treated the timbers with borate and are ready to put them on the wall. The timbers are of different widths but our plan was to space them 3-5 inches apart. The depth of the timbers is close to 2 inches. Can I use chicken wire as a backer or would something else work better. We were going to put mortar as the chinking but want it a very light grey color. What is your recommendation.
