On my mothers log home, the Cedar logs around the chimney are oozing a white substance, which has never happen prior to this year. The only difference the year, she didn’t use the fireplace at all, which previously was utilized every winter. My internet searches really didn’t provide clear answers as to what it is or might be.
If you can shed any light as to what this could be, would be very much appreciated!

It could be some kind of fungus or mold growing on the logs. Have you checked the area to see if it’s wet or getting moisture on it from a roof leak or something similar? Depending on what you find you may want to contact a log repair company and send some photos to have someone take a closer look. I would check out www.logrepair.com
