We just bought an Appalachian Style home, white oak logs, about 10 years old. The chink is in great shape everywhere. The logs have never been sealed/stained and the wood is grey. Our inspector told us to stain/seal the logs. First, should we stain/seal it? Second, if we do, should we pressure wash first? Last, would I have to hand paint every log and try to not get stain on my perfectly nice chink? Thanks!

If you are OK with the gray look give it a LIGHT wash and apply a good coat of Shell Guard borate. If you want to stain it it will need to be media blasted, Osborne brushed and then stain. It is more time effective to spray stain over chink and then paint chink lines.
