I have a log cabin that was built in the 1960’s with round pine logs. Wood slats were used as backer on the interior walls and it was chinked with mud, which is now falling out. Should I use a bond breaker or apply synthetic chinking directly to slats and logs?

Not really sure what to tell you. I’m not sure what you mean by ”bond breaker”. Normally we would just chink over the existing. If you do remove the old chink you should take care and insert shims between the logs to stop any settling.
