my log cabin has chinks in the inside supporting beam that runs the width of the cabin. The chinks are about and inch wide and are horizontal on the beam. the cabin is about 30 years old. do I worry?

It is normal and typically you don’t need to worry, but if you are real concerned you should have a structural engineer look at it.
