What is the most important and major difference in building a log home in a cold northern state and the deep south area like Mississippi.

The only real difference in my opinion is that in the north there is such a big difference in temperature causing the logs to expand and contract a lot causing the chink or caulk to pull loose. Also, in the north when it rains it will stay overcast for several hours normally and not allow the logs to dry off right away, unlike the south where it rains every afternoon for 15 minutes and then then the sun comes out and dries everything off. Both areas require about the same maintenance. A lot has to do with your exposure to wind and sun damage.
