We are considering buying our first log home. A repair was needed due to water damage, so the owner made the repairs, but used log siding instead of replacing the logs.
From what I understand, it is common to cut back a log and replace it with a cut in half log, but have not seen siding being used for this type of repair.
I am wondering if this can be considered an acceptable or common repair?

I guess it would be acceptable, but probably doesn’t look very good. A properly replaced log should look like the existing logs. Call Ryan at 877-788-5647 for an estimate.
