I have a 25 year old log place locate in southern Ontario that has one side (south facing) that is a maintenance nightmare. Is there a way to cover this with siding or something similar in order to both protect it better from the weather and make it easier to maintain?

You could put a vapor barrier up and apply siding. Just make sure that any rot that is in the wall is replaced or repaired first.
