our log cabin is 85 years old, it is chinked with oakum. we have replaced some of the oakum but it is a very tedious job. we are thinking of painting the exterior of the building and chinking it from the outside, can this be done? if so what would you suggest.

NEVER use paint on a log home. You could chink it from the outside. Use Perma Chink and Grip Strip backer and then solid stain instead of paint. looks like paint, but acts like stain. Call Timeless Wood Care at 800-564-2987 for help and the materials you will need.
