I am staining the outside of my log home that has a white chinking between the logs. Is there a good approach to prevent the stain from running onto the chinking? I am using a oil based stain called WoodGaurd, which is really runny. Is masking tape the only option?

First I would say get a different stain. Second, you will have to paint the chink lines when you are finished. Perma /chink makes a chink paint. Use a very short bristled brush.
