We recently purchased a 104 year old log cabin and we are wondering what to do to maintain the outside of the logs as they appear to be dryer and much more weathered than the interior walls. I am assuming it has been treated with a black stain, but I was hoping to change it to a weathered grey or smokey transparent stain. What is involved in this process of removing old stain and applying new stain? It there anything we can do to ensure longevity especially on the south facing wall? Thanks
