we own a 6 year old cedar log cabin in Vermont. The woodpeckers have become a real neusance mostly on all four corners and ends off logs or posts on the porch roof. We have attached plastic owls to try to scare them away. It seems be be helping, but what can we do to stop them. We live here only during the summer months.

The best thing would be to strip the finish and apply a borate treatment. You could also try having an exterminator come and spray to try and get the bugs from the surface wood that the birds are after.
