I have a 15 year old log home which will be corn-blasted this summer. Instead of sealing it, my contractor recommends oiling it every two years and not using any other products on it (besides a borate treatment). Do you recommend using oil instead of stain/sealants?

I would not recommend it. It will continue to get darker and darker. Not to mention the smell. Also it may not be to good for the gound water since it will wash off the wall slowly andcould be considered an oil spill over time.Only 5 gallons of oil is considered a major oil spill. Expensive to clean up.
