MY LOG CABIN APPEARS TO HAVE HAD THE PAINTED FINISH SCRAPED OFF MANY YEARS AGO. I WOULD LIKE TO REFINISH THE EXTERIOR AND HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED TO USE A PAINT LIKE STAIN AND NOT A REGULAR TRANSPARENT STAIN. WHAT SHOULD I USE?

Yes solid color stains do blend new logs and old together by covering the log grains. This does work. Trans parent stains are more difficult keeping up. The upkeep will require every 2 years proguard clear coat. I would suggest to use borate on the logs 1st.
