I am considering purchasing a 25 year old log home in my home state of minnesota. The home has a solid color stain that was applied about 6 years ago. I’ve done some reading about this and understand that solid color stain is not a good thing for the long term life of the logs. I have major concerns about what the stain may be doing to the logs or what damage has been done to the logs as a result of the 6 years of solid color stain. Any advise or Ideas about what else I should know or be lookin

I really don’t think solid color stain is bad for logs. Any stain on logs is fine, either solid or transparent. Paint on the other hand should never be used. Stain allows the wood to breath as where paint seals them upto much.
