We are finishing our basement and plant to leave the rough cut hardwood ceiling joists exposed (100 year old home). I have cleaned them with wirebrush, soap, and water. Do you recommend tung or linseed oil or other finish to enhance the grain. OR is it best to leave unfinished.
I would recommend an acrylic latex clear finish. Do not use any plant oil based products (Tung, Linseed, etc.) Call Dave at 800-564-2987 to get the latex products and more help. For future knowledge, never use a wire brush on wood. You want to use an Osborn brush that has plastic bristles. You shouldn’t have any problems since it is interior, but on the exterior especially, the wire can get caught in the wood fiber and will cause rust stains over time under the stain.
