We have a rustic log cabin near Glacier National Park, built of Western Larch and well hewn inside with a braod ax to a very even surface. The porch ceiling has never been finished. How would you suggest we finish it? Would random width 3/4” boards be in keeping with the style?

Use the 3/4” boards, but get an Adzes and mark them up to match your logs before staining them. You can buy an Adzes at http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=1655
