My wife and I just purchased an old log cabin, (built around 1955) while looking at the house I noticed that they used quickcrete for chinking. Should this all be removed? There are no apparent leaks in the cabin. And what would be the best thing to clean the logs with.
You shouldn’t have to remove it, but it would be a good idea to have a latex chink, such as Perma Chink, applied over the concrete. The concrete does not keep a good seal and allows water to get in behind it and can cause log rot.
