I am seriously considering purchase of a property built in the 1930s which is log with some stucco portions. In doing some research I understood that staining was needed. However when asking when the sides of the house were stained – ends had been done recently I was told the logs on the side are primarily still covered in bark which naturally protects the wood. Further, t would be a mistake to remove the bark and stain the logs. This seems a bit weird and has put me on pause in regard to what I
There are a lot of cedar log homes out there with bark still on them, but it usually is falling off in a lot of places and catching water allowing it to get inside. It also harbors bugs. I say remove it and treat with borate then stain. Possible chinking also. Call Mike at 866-670-3020 for help.
