Bought a log home built in 1980. Until ten years ago it was well maintained then sonld appears no work done by this owner.
Don,t know where to start. It is a ”D” log
Needs Windows, roof, log cleaning staying (caulking???).
Limited budget so 60K in one summer out of my ability.
Where should I start. I am a capable handyman so will do much myself.
Please advise.
The wood is in great shape, and the exterminator gives clean bill of health. Passed VA loan guarantee.
Start with repairing the roof to protect everything under it. Then take care of the windows. A lot of windows can be replaced without having to remove the frames. Your local Home Depot can help you with this. They will do free estimates.
If there are any rotten logs they will need to be replaced. If they are real bad they may need to be fixed prior to window and door replacement. Call Ryan at 877-788-5647 for help with this. Log replacement should be left to a professional.
If you are going prepare it yourself for staining sanding is going to be the best option. Media blasting should also be left to a professional.
Use a good quality latex stain like LifeLine or Capture/Cascade. Once you get the finish back to where it belongs the maintenance is critical every 3 to 4 years. Call Dave at Timeless Wood Care Products at 800-564-2987 for more help and the materials you will need.
