I have recently peeled and stacked ponderosa pines logs into cabin walls. The logs were dried for 6 months prior to peeling, and now have dried another month stacked. I would like to apply a stain/sealer before wet snow falls. A major consumer publication lists Olympic Prem. Latex stain as the longest lasting in their test. I have applied satin Spar Varnish to interior logs before and would like this appearance for the EXTERIOR logs what do you recommend…oil or water stains/sealers.
A little late, but for anyone else you should always peel the logs right after harvest. This stops Blue Stain and Bark Beetle from getting into the logs. Call Timeless Wood Care at 800-564-2987. They just told me that they have a product that will give you the look you want that has been holding up to UV test quite well.
