I have a 38 x 38 saddle notch log home build with 25 inch white pine logs. My partner thinks we should build a 4 foot knee wall on the sides with timber frame and timber frame the roof system. The question I have is do I need a king post across the top wall for support to keep the logs from pushing out? With a knee wall the pressure is on the top of the walls? However I think we need a large log across the top of the wall to tie or lock the walls in to prevent movement. He does not?
