We have an 1840’s long home (square, rough-hewl logs). The stone fireplace was removed long ago, and the logs in area where it was removed look deteriorated/pulpy/soft/discolored, as if heat caused trauma. The rest of the logs are fine. Is there anyway to treat this damaged area tp preserve wood and make it look similar to other logs?
