I’m in the process of buying a 26 year old log home. It was built from a kit by an outfit in Virginia. They used pine logs that were attached together by use of a 1/4 inch tempered masonite spline that was notched into a one inch groove that ran down the center of each log. The home inspector (who is not a log home expert, although he said he had a lot of experience with log homes) strongly suggested that we have the house chinked and caulked.
