I am installing D log siding on a newly constructed home. Questions that I have: 1.) We are using butt joint corners which have large cracks on them. These cracks should not be caulked, correct? 2.) Where the logs meet the door trim/window trim – should this joint be caulked? 3.) the top and bottom of the logs where they join together int he tongue and groove – should this be caulked? 4.) 1. Correct, do not caulk the checks in the logs. 2. Yes, you should caulk at windows and doors. You should also caulk all butt joints where two log ends meet. 3. It is up to you on the chink lines where the tongue and groove meets, but I would recommend it. 4. The Sherwin Williams is a good product, but when you need to do a maintenance coat it will get darker and you will loose the original color. I would recommend using Life Line stain from Perma Chink which is made for log homes.
