I have what I believe is an 1850s era log house in NW Pennsylvania. I would like to insulate the roof and let a portion of the rafters remain exposed. About 15 years ago we had the roof replaced. The contractor removed the old tin roof and discovered the remnants of the wood shingles. They nailed plywood on top of the wood shingles and put down asphalt shingles and installed a roof vent.
