If you want to be able to wipe the inside down I would recommend that you sand it all down with a palm sander then apply Perma Chink Acrylic Gloss or Satin clear finish.

I would recommend breaking it out and having a carpenter do the handyman work. Hire a professional to do the blasting, caulking and staining. Get references and if you can go look at their work.

This can sometimes happen on media blasted logs. The second application light and heavy may help. If you haven’t gone to far you should Osborne brush it then stain. That should help with the blotchy.

Waiting is fine. You will have to give it a light bath in the spring to remove any dust and mold spores before staining.
