Borate should work just fine. I’m not familiar with the Fireside Log. Not sure how Carpenter Bees like it. Borate will not stop them.

You need to have a local contractor answer this so that it meets your local building code.

Replace rotten logs, strip old finish, apply a borate treatment, stain and rechink with a latex chink right over the mortar.

It definitely needs to be treated with a good borate. Any stain or paint will have to be removed first. Call Mike at 866-670-3020 for an estimate on costs.

It needs to be replaced ASAP. It will continue to rot towards the interior, and then you have even more problems. This is why I say to never fill these checks. This is exactly what will happen if left un-inspected.
