Find a good latex stain made for log homes like Life Line or Capture/Cascade. If you want oil stain go with Sikkens Log & Siding. Call Dave at 800-564-2987 for these products and more advice.

I would recommend sanding the entire house back to bare wood and then stain. Be sure that it is completely dry if you are going to use Sikkens Log & Siding.
You will want to wait a good couple of days of dry weather before you start (especially with Sikkens). If you power washed you will need to wait longer.
Not sure…contact you local Sikkens dealer. They may be able to help. It could be borate bleed through, if you used too much borate before staining.
It is, but you must put some sort of stain on it to block UV or it will turn gray rather quickly. Perma Chink Life Line stain has several colors that are on the lighter side and look natural.
