You can try to wash it off with warm water and TSP mixed with a LITTLE bleach. If that does not cure the problem you will have to corn cob blast the finish off and start over.

Energy Seal is the caulk of choice. As for the stain I would stick with the Sikkens unless you are prepared to strip the entire house to apply something different.

Jeff: Keep a maintenance coat ofwhatever type of stain he used. Also, watch for fading, cracking or peeling stain and repair immediately. Do NOT fill all of the checks (cracks) in the logs unless they are allowing wind, water or bugs to enter the interior of the cabin.
