First you should never soda blast wood since it can mess the PH up in the wood fiber and cause peeling. Osborn brushing after media blasting is a good idea before staining.

Most any blaster will work and most rental stores have them. Tell them you need a couple of different size nozzles to try.

If it is true paint I would recommend crushed glass and then Osborn brush or sand it after blasting before staining.
