We just purchased our first log cabin built in 2008. It has been vacant since 2008 and, in an attempt to limit places for insects to hide, I would like to fill the gaps between exterior (log) walls and shower stalls and cupboards. These gaps are present due to the natural shape of the log making it impossible for the stall and cupboards to sit flush against the wall. I was thinking of using Great Stuff to fill the depth of the gaps and chinking over it to make it look more appealing. Is this
DO NOT use Great Stuff. 2 reasons:
1. It will draw moisture from the air and since it is sitting against the logs will cause rot over time. This is more true on the exterior.
2. This is the main reason for what you are trying to do. Since it is an open celled foam it gives off formaldehyde gas and will cause any chink or caulk that you cover it with to bubble.
Fill the voids with Grip Strip Backer Foam and then chink or caulk over it.
