I Treated a portion of a log on my home with used motor oil> i like the darker look and the idea that it will last a long time. If I dont have a problem with the looks, what is the downside?

Toxicity. The oil leaching from the side of the house could cause ground water damage. Also, the smell on a very sunny day could infiltrate the house and give you headachesor more.I have seen this before and had customers who had used it then wanted it removed.The problem is the stain will not bond with the wood once you have done this.
