We have a hewn log cabin, built in 1985. Our chinked area is 4 feet tall and about 6 inches deep. The chinking is on something flimsy like cardboard and there is batting insulation behind that (in front of plastic sheathing). All the chinking is falling off the house. We want to redo all the chinking but need to know what to put the chinking on so it doesn’t fall off. Since our gaps are so wide, should be do it the way they did (batting, chinking on something against the insulation).
