Can I use Liquid Nail Heavy Duty instead of like Permachinks checkmate or energyseal? Also would staining with liquid nail be ok?

Absolutely not. Liquid Nails will get rock hard and the seal will be broken as the logs expand and contract. Also, it will not take the stain. Spend the money and do it right with Energy Seal. Side note: do not fill the checks (cracks in the logs), only if they are allowing wind, water or bugs to get inside the house. The checks are better left alone. If you fill them it could promote rot.
